A beautiful historical student city, famous for its canals. Also one of the largest volleyball cities in the Netherlands: the perfect first stop for the King of the Court Crown Series.

Utrecht is home to the Netherland’s largest beach volleyball scene, with the city’s biggest club, VV Utrecht, boasting a membership of over 600 players. It also has an active, fun-loving student population and fairy tale old town, making the city the logical launch pad for the King of Court series.

In 2017, the city played host to a trial event of King of the Court, the inspiration for this brand-new, action-packed series. "For us, the King of the Court in Utrecht was the highlight of 2017,” said Dutch former World Champions and Olympic bronze medalists, Robert Meeuwsen and Alexander Brouwer, who competed in the event. It was a hit with the players and spectators and with this summer’s European Beach Volleyball Championship’s 2,000-seat stadium selling out the launch of the King of the Court promises to be an absolute banger!

Beyond the nets of the King of the Court the city is a hive of activity, with plenty of museums, a buzzing music and arts scene and lively café culture to explore. Check out the exhibition of the lovable Miffy, created by resident illustrator Dick Bruna, at the Centaal Museum; catch a game of footie at FC Utrecht’s Galgenwaard Stadium or cruise the curve of the Oudegracht canal through the old town, whetting you appetite in one of the many basement wharf bars and cafes.

Be sure to catch the first serves of King of the Court in Utrecht!
